Scout by Sutter Health™ combines technology and human support through GetWell Loop to deliver personalized mental health resources to youths and caregivers
Bethesda, MD (November 15, 2022) — Get Well, a global leader in patient engagement, announced today that Sutter Health is adopting its digital care platform, GetWell Loop, for Scout by Sutter Health™, a virtual resource that helps teens and young adults build resilience and manage everyday mental health. Scout supports youth ages 12 to 26 years and their caregivers.
Scout by Sutter Health™ is a non-clinical, virtual experience that combines human and digital components to help youth by delivering personalized, evidence-based educational content in a web-friendly format via text or email. Each week, young people and their caregivers have the opportunity to check in, receive valuable materials to help them understand their mental health, and build a toolkit of skills. Scout’s goal is to empower young people to manage their own everyday mental health while also creating a safety net by connecting those who need further care with resources to support them. Scout by Sutter Health™ on Get Well Loop is also available in Spanish.
“Addressing mental health matters in advance — especially for youth — can have a lasting impact on one’s total health over the course of their lifetime,” said Dr. Tam Nguyen, Director of Ambulatory Care for the Mental Health and Addiction Care team at Sutter Health. “Tools like Scout by Sutter Health™ help establish ‘safe places’ early on for youth and families to work through their mental wellness needs.”
A CDC analysis from earlier this year shed light on youth mental health concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, finding that more than one-third of high school students reported they experienced poor mental health during the pandemic, and 44% reported they persistently felt sad or hopeless during the past year. Scout by Sutter Health™ gives young people a convenient tool for support, providing educational content in a relatable and engaging format.
“We’re firm believers of the power within digital health to improve continuous access to whole-person care,” said Vandana Pant, Senior Director for Sutter Health’s Design and Innovation team. “Scout by Sutter Health™ represents our commitment to supporting teens and young adults so they can better build resilience, understand difficult emotions and manage their everyday mental health. Part of what makes this platform so unique is how it was co-designed by young people. Their initial input, as well as our ongoing updates and enhancements, will help bring the Scout by Sutter Health™ experience to more young people and caregivers.”
Scout by Sutter Health™ first went live as a pilot on Get Well’s Docent (now Get Well Navigate) platform in May 2020. The transition to GetWell Loop offers a seamless user experience through which users can access resources, provide feedback on content, watch educational videos, and reach out to guides using a single tool.
“The growing mental health crisis among America’s youth is a critical issue in our society that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, algorithmic bias and social media, and rising violence in our communities,” added LouAnn Bala, VP of Content Strategy and Clinical Programs at Get Well. “This is the first GetWell Loop program in the youth behavioral health space, and we’re excited to work with Sutter Health to address a pressing issue in an actionable way.”
