Pelham Medical Center to Present Webinar on Reducing Patient Falls

Patient engagement and education helps reduce falls by 33 percent

Bethesda, Md., July 24, 2014 – Pelham Medical Center in Greer, S.C., will present at a webinar on July 31 describing how they used Interactive Patient Care™ (IPC) technology and lean process workflow innovation to achieve a 33 percent reduction in patient falls. The webinar will be hosted by GetWellNetwork®, Inc., the leader in IPC solutions.

Under mandates from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, hospitals face increasing pressure to prevent avoidable patient illness and injury. Patient falls, for instance, can impact satisfaction scores and quality and safety outcomes – measures by which health care facilities are rated and reimbursed under the new law.

After implementing GetWellNetwork’s IPC technology in every patient room, Pelham, part of the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, used GetWellNetwork’s Falls Prevention Pathway to help patients understand and assess their risk of falling. If a patient is determined to be at risk, for example, the system prompts the patient via the bedside TV to review video education on how to prevent falls and injury. Additionally, clinical staff are notified of at-risk patients.
